Episode 27: Racial Stamina

Coffee with a Little Bit of Cream Podcast

Wellness for Educators is excited to be the sister podcast for another podcast called Coffee with a Little Bit of Cream. This podcast was started by the Vice President of our Board of Directors, Shomari Jones, who also serves as the Director of Equity and Family Engagement at Bellevue School District in Bellevue, Washington. Along with a colleague of his, Dr. Paul Sutton, who serves as an Assistant Professor of Education at Pacific Lutheran University, they are partnering for impactful change. On their podcast, Shomari and Paul examine issues that impact education and the education system, and ways that issues of race, power, and privilege impact students, educators, schools, districts, and the larger educational system.

The topic of this episode is the concept of racial stamina and what it has to do with personal wellness and well-being. Joining Shomari and Paul for this episode is Dr. Ashok Shimoji-Krishnan, a child and adolescent psychologist at Kaiser Permanente in the Pacific Northwest. You can view the vodcast version or listen to the podcast episode at the links shared below.

We are so excited to serve as a sister podcast for Shomari and Paul. We're grateful for the opportunity to amplify their mission and purpose, exploring the many ways that our personal, lived experiences help us understand our racialized identities, our power, and our privilege in the world as people and educators with a goal of creating a collective sense of understanding and empathy around these issues. A special shout-out to Dr. Rebecca Meeder, their amazing producer extraordinaire! We’ll be continuing to share their episodes as they publish!
